The Band

Mike Whitney, Ben Adelman, Matt Beard and Jon Stone recently pulled together to form StoneTown. They share five decades of combined experience, having played gigs on the North shore with a variety of bands including Don’t Call Me Shirley, As the Crow Flies, DownDog and the Squatcho Bondo Band.

They’re firm believers in the maxim: If it’s not fun, it’s not worth playing – or listening to. Their influences cover a variety of genres, artists and styles, from Alro Guthrie to Warren Zevon (folk/rock), Emmylou Harris to Seldom Scene (country/bluegrass), the Duhks to Silly Wizard (Celtic), and Doc Watson to the Delmore Brothers (blues).

The band brings its own rootsy, alt-country twist to standards like “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” and “I Know You Rider,” with the help of Mike’s manic mandolin solos, Ben’s crunchy Les Paul sound and their frequent three-part harmonies. Each song steams along a pair of solid tracks nailed down by Jon’s bass and Matt’s drums; once the train gets rolling, it’s hard for audiences to not get on for the ride.
